Flooding - we ain't seen nothing yet!
The UK has recently suffered unprecedented flooding, with Bewdley being badly affected when the flood defences proved inadequate. We have been told many times that global warming will bring milder, wetter winters and hotter summers so we should not be too surprised. Other countries have had the fires, we have had the floods. Will governments around the world be prompted to take action this November at the COP26 talks? Time is not on our side as this short video illustrates.
The Future We Choose, a new book by the architects of the Paris Climate Accord, offers two contrasting visions for how the world might look in thirty years. You can read a summary of their predictions by clicking on either of the images below. It's for us to choose and 2020 is seen as being the crunch year.

Beavers to the Rescue?
Beavers have alleviated flooding, reduced pollution and boosted populations of fish, amphibians and other wildlife, according to a five-year study of wild-living beavers in Devon. Read more here ...
Severn Trent Water leads the way
Some companies are getting the message. Midlands water supplier Severn Trent shows the way by going zero carbon in just 10 years. It will spend 1.2bn on a range of projects including improving bio-diversity on 5,000 hectares of land and helping farmers use natural methods. Plus £10m for local community projects. More here ...
Heathrow airport expansion grounded?
The Court of Appeal has ruled that the Heathrow development can’t go ahead as planned. It does not comply with or support the UK’s targets to reduce emissions and move towards a sustainable future. The government has said it will accept the court’s decision.
But this ruling could have some pretty dramatic ripple effects.
A case like this could mean that the law starts ruling to protect citizens from the life-threatening effects of climate and ecological breakdown. Which of course should be the first priority of any government anyway. Sad that we need a court ruling to say this.
The court action was brought by the PlanB organisation - read about them here ...
Heartened by the Heathrow victory, Chris Packham has started a crowdfunder to support a legal challenge to HS2 and George Monbiot has started a crowdfunder to support a legal challenge to the government's support of fossil fuel based power stations.
Using the courts to over-ride decisions made primarily for political reasons is suddenly giving environmentalists cause for optimism. Please consider contributing to these important crowdfunders. Read about them by clicking the images below.

How to feed 10 billion - rewild our farms!
The New Scientist reports that our current food system can feed only 3.4bn people sustainably. However if the world changes both its diet and farming methods we can feed 10bn well into the future. The surprising recommendations are that in order to increase long term productivity and sustainability we should return much of our farmland to nature - the rewilding approach.

Learn more about Rewilding
The Grouse Moor burning goes on
Grouse moor owners take the opposite approach. Rather than rewilding, they continue to burn vast tracts to make the lucrative grouse shooting easier. And an opportunity to radically reduce flooding is lost. Despite government promises of control, the burning and killing continues. Perhaps when the flooding gets bad enough there will be some action. Or will there? Read more about this here ...

Great service from this local company with a strong eco-attitude.
The following is from their website:
"As the world burned from the Amazon to Australia and we all left it to a 15 year-old schoolgirl to lead the charge against climate change ....... and, we begin to lose bio-diversity at the rate of 200 species per day, innovation is needed across a range of human activities. Refillability has a role to play in that innovation. Will printer and cartridge manufacturers continue to look the other way? "
